Good businesses are built through hard work.  Helping them work better matters to me.

I respect people who build things, solve practical problems, serve customers well, and stand behind their work.  Business owners and leadership teams who have spent years earning trust, developing their people, and building a reputation have created something worth protecting and strengthening.

That respect is what draws me to this work.

Why are we making this harder than it needs to be?

Throughout my career, I’ve kept coming back to that question.

Early in my career, working in finance at Microsoft, I saw teams repeatedly correct product information because different regions handled the same products differently.  What stayed with me was not the size of the company, but how easily capable people had adapted to working around a problem instead of fixing it.

I’ve seen that pattern in many businesses since.  A temporary fix becomes the normal way of working.  Good people compensate by working harder.  The owner steps in because doing it personally feels faster than explaining it.  Over time, those habits consume capacity, frustrate the team, and make the business increasingly dependent on a few people.

What running a business taught me

My background spans finance, operations, marketing, and business development, including fifteen years at Microsoft and subsequent consulting work.  I also co-founded and operated an import, distribution, and ecommerce business.

Running that business deepened my understanding of what ownership asks of you.  Cash flow, customer concerns, suppliers, inventory, and competing priorities follow you home.  Decisions have to be made with the information, time, and resources available.  There is rarely a convenient moment to step back and rethink how the business operates.

It also taught me how quickly opportunity can outrun preparation.  New products and customers create pressure when the people and processes behind the business aren’t ready.  Sustainable growth depends on the team’s ability to deliver, not only on their willingness to work harder.

How I work and what I value

I start by understanding how work actually gets done.  That means listening to business owners, leadership teams, and the people doing the work, asking practical questions, and learning why current practices developed before proposing changes.

I value preparation, direct communication, and doing what you say you will do.  I’m comfortable questioning assumptions, and I welcome the same in return.  Any improvement has to make sense to the people responsible for carrying it out and still hold up during a busy week.

I’m particularly interested in helping business owners and leadership teams prepare their business for its next chapter, whether that means growth, new leadership, or an eventual ownership change.  Sharing critical knowledge and helping others take responsibility gives leaders more room to focus on the future and owners the option to eventually step back with confidence.

I want to help business owners and leadership teams build stronger businesses while preserving the craftsmanship, customer relationships, and reputation they’ve worked hard to establish.  That starts with a practical, candid relationship grounded in mutual respect.
